Home sickness

November 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I hear a song by The Drones or You Am I.  I spot a guy with a cheeky grin.  I see a girl wearing dark green.  I watch a bad Nic Cage movie on TV on a rainy Saturday night.

Home sickness can hit anywhere, anytime.   My heart begins to weigh me down.  I slow down my pace or zone out.  I start to sigh heavily.

I begin thinking about old friends and missing people who I didn’t think I’d miss.  I reminisce about winter backyard bonfire parties in the North, sunny Sunday morning Camberwell market scavenger hunts (hungover), hanging out at Fitzroy and Brunswick dive bars until 3am on a weeknight, and frantically attempting to try whatever new cafe has opened that week.  Most of all, I yearn to cuddle my cat.
