This monthly 80s party that Spike and Caitlin DJ at was on the top of my list of things to do when I moved to Toronto. However, when I moved here, it turned out that most of the Canadians I met weren’t as Degrassi-mad as me. They should be revoked of their citizenship. Honestly though, every time it’s on it either clashes with another event or I just simply forget. I’ll go next month. Definitely, next month. Fortunately a fellow Degrassi obsessed Aussie friend has recently moved here, so my chances of going to the party in December are pretty high this time (fingers crossed).
God, I completely feel like those Brits who do the Neighbours tour in Melbourne.

On my way home I walked past Lucy at the corner of Ossington Ave and Queen St. She was tall and much more stunning in real life. I could see why she was the target of a creepy teacher. Lucy was walking with two toddlers – one black, one white. She must be one of the ex-Degrassi actors who, I was told, lived in my neighbourhood. I was hoping she would come to my house trick or treating later. During the night I saw John McCain, Sarah Palin, Barack Obama, Michael Cera, David Bowie and the Blue Man Group…well, people dressed up as them. Unfortunately Lucy was my sole encounter with an actual “celebrity” on Halloween.

There is often a blue vintage Raleigh bike parked close to mine in front of the yoga studio near my office. As I was putting on my helmet this afternoon for the ride back home, a tall and slender pixie nosed brunette approached the blue bike to unlock it. She looked like Liz, and having heard a rumour that she was an instructor at the yoga studio, I put two and two together and begun to freak out. Should I say something to her? Should I tell her about how big Degrassi was in Australia? Should I tell her that Degrassi taught me everything about life? Would she be annoyed about being recognised for Degrassi? Before I could get my act together she walked away with her bike. I continued to stare until she was out of sight.
I have met famous actors and musicians with ease, but when it comes to talking to obscure former child actors who I dedicatedly watched everyday after school, rationality seems to escape me.
